Floppy Baby Syndrome

Floppy baby syndrome is an abnormal condition of newborns and infants manifested by inadequate tone of the muscles, due to a variety of different neurologic and muscle problems. It is also called hypotonia, or decreased tone of skeletal muscles. Hypotonic infants rest with their elbows and knees loosely extended, and may have poor head control.

Hypotonia is common in cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders. Untreated hypotonia can lead to hip dislocation and other problems.
